ELIZABETH – The two Union County jail inmates who made national headlines after breaking out of the facility in December have pleaded not guilty to escape charges.

One of the men, Otis Blunt, who allegedly left a taunting note for a guard at who later committed suicide, also rejected a plea bargain on separate robbery and assault charges.

World Math Day

Fourth graders from Assumption Catholic  School in Perth Amboy recently participated in the World Math Day challenge

World Math Day – Fourth graders from Assumption Catholic School in Perth Amboy recently participated in the World Math Day challenge. They had to answer as many math sentences online as they could in sixty seconds.  The Perth Amboy students played against Egypt, Portugal, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Qatar.  They were eager to be a part of the event but even more excited to see what countries they were competing against.

WOODBRIDGE-The freezing winds didn’t keep stop parade goers from attending the 35th Annual Woodbridge St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 9. The parade began with the Central Jersey Marine Leathernecks Corps League followed by the John F. Kennedy High School Mustangs Marching Band in their green and white marching uniforms. (more…)

RAHWAY— The Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum Association (MDTMA) will be hosting a Children’s Ghost Night at the Tavern on Saturday, March 29 beginning at 6:30 p.m. All children from ages 6 through 14 are invited to step back in time to the early 1800s to visit a candlelit tavern and hear true tales of ghostly happenings from that era.  Parents are also welcome to join this fun and exciting evening at the 210-year-old Rahway landmark where enactors will take their audience through the period rooms and share the stories and historical legends of supernatural and mysterious events. ELIZABETH—Dora Mighty, a senior at St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth, captured first place in the regional Poetry Out Loud’s competition which was held on Feb. 21 in Red Bank. As regional representative Mighty will have the opportunity to compete against the six other regional winners at the state wide competition, which will be held on March 27 in Trenton. Each state winner will receive an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the national championship. (more…)
