STATE—The New York Post reported that the estranged wife of former Gov. James McGreevey must have known he was gay, because they shared their bed with a twenty-something driver and aide.
In an interview with The Post, Teddy Pedersen recounted explicit details of alleged three-way sexual escapades he had with McGreevey and Dina Matos McGreevey during their courtship and after they married.
If Matos engaged in group sex with her husband and other men, it would undermine her argument that she never knew her husband was gay.
Matos and McGreevey are currently in the midst of a divorce and custody battle that has gained much media attention in New Jersey because McGreevey wants full custody with support from Matos.
Pedersen was listed as a witness in the divorce by Matos McGreevey’s legal advisors.
In an e-mail to The Associated Press, the nation’s first openly gay governor said published reports by the former aide were true. In a statement to ABC News, Matos McGreevey denied the allegations.
McGreevey and his current partner, Australian investment adviser Mark O’Donnell, purchased a $1.4 million 92-year-old Georgian Colonial mansion in Plainfield on 1.7 acres with eight bedrooms, four bathrooms, five fireplaces, a solarium, a swimming pool, and a butler’s pantry.
McGreevey joined the Episcopal faith one year ago and was admitted to the master of divinity program at the Chelsea section of the General Theological Seminary in Manhattan.
Matos McGreevey, who had shunned the spotlight during her two years as New Jersey’s first lady, disappeared from public view after her husband announced on Aug. 12, 2004, that he was gay and was resigning effective Nov. 15, because Golan Cipel, an Israeli citizen he appointed as New Jersey’s homeland security aide had allegedly threatened the former governor with a sexual harassment lawsuit.
Matos McGreevey, who once served on the Elizabeth planning board, published “Silent Partner” last year and promoted her book on The Oprah Winfrey Show and on ABC’s Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer.
She stated: “I thought I had it all, I thought it was the American dream, and it turned out to be a nightmare.”
McGreeveys’ daughter, Jacqueline, was born on Dec. 7, 2001. The couple met in 1996, while McGreevey was still mayor of Woodbridge, and they began dating the following year, after he lost his first bid for governor to Christie Whitman. The couple married in October 2000 in a small, private ceremony at the Hay-Adams Hotel in Washington, D.C. Rahway Mayor James Kennedy was best man at the wedding.
