ELIZABETH—The city lost a bid to host the 2009 National Golden Gloves tournament to Salt Lake City, which was awarded by a 20-12 vote last week at a delegates meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Salt Palace will be host venue in the first tournament conducted in the western half of the continental U.S. since it was held in Las Vegas in 2003.
Two other cities announced intentions to bid on the 2010 tournament during the organization’s mid-year meetings in September: Little Rock, Ark., and Portland, Ore.
