EDISON—While attending the recent farewell salute at Fort Dix, Mayor Jun Choi thanked some of the 3,000 New Jersey soldiers who have been deployed for “Operation Iraqi Freedom.”
Twenty-three soldiers in the one-year deployment are from Edison. They are part of the 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. More than 30 percent of the brigade members have been previously deployed in such places as Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and the Sinai Peninsula.
This is the largest New Jersey National Guard deployment since World War II.
“We are grateful for the sacrifice that these men and women are making to defend our freedom. They will remain in our thoughts and prayers and I wish them a safe homecoming,” Choi said.
