STATE—The New Jersey Division of Taxation began mailing more than 1.3 million Homestead Rebate checks on July 31 to eligible homeowners age 65 or older or disabled who filed their applications by June 2. The Division of Taxation has also started mailing rebates for eligible tenants of all ages. Applicants who submitted their application after the original deadline will receive their rebate checks as quickly as possible.
“If you have not already filed an application for the 2007 Homestead Rebate or the 2007 Property Tax Reimbursement Program, also know as the ‘Senior Freeze’, there is still plenty of time,” said Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-Union). “The Division of Taxation has announced a re-extended application deadline of Oct. 31. This extension is a great opportunity for any applicant in need of additional time to gather information and complete the required application forms.”
Homestead Rebate Checks for non-senior, non-disabled residents who file their applications by Aug.15 are scheduled to be mailed in the fall. Any eligible applicant filing between Aug. 16 and Oct. 31 will be sent a rebate check as soon as possible but after the initial fall distribution.
Homestead Rebate applications can be filed by calling 1-877-658-2972 or filed online at www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation. Two State Hotlines have also been established to answer any questions residents may have. Homeowners can dial 1-888-238-1233, while tenants can dial 1-888-213-8623 to reach a New Jersey State Division of Taxation representative.
