South Amboy Honors Police, Firefighters, Volunteers

SOUTH AMBOY—The Pete Kenny Association, along with the Middlesex County Emerald Society, held Police, Fire and Volunteer Day on Oct. 12 at the Blue Moon Café on Broadway.

A number of individuals were honored at Police, Fire and Volunteer Day in South Amboy on Oct 12. Pictured left to right, Back row: Ptl. Matt Barcheski, Ptl. Michael Kelly, Ptl. South Amboy police officers Patrolman Matt Barcheski, Patrolman Michael Kelly and Patrolman Ted Nycz were honored for meritorious service. Retired Sgt. Frank Norek of the South Amboy Police Department received the Volunteer of the Year award for his many years of volunteering in the “Pleasant Little City” as a life member of South Amboy First Aid & Safety Squad and a current member of Mechanicsville Hose. Co.

Past Fire Chief Tim Walczak, a member of Protection Engine Co., received the Firefighter of the Year award, while Jerry Garnett, who has worked for the city for 31 years, the last 13 as the Superintendent of Public Works, received the Municipal Employee of the Year award.

A special award was given to the family of the late Sgt. First Class Benjamin L. Sebban, who was killed in Iraq on March 17, 2007. Sebban grew up in South Amboy. His mother, Barbara Walsh, thanked everyone and said the South Amboy people have been so wonderful to her and her family through the difficult time.

Pete Kenny presented Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz a life membership card to the Middlesex County Emerald Society.
