Clark Mayor To Be Honored At Temple’s Casino Night

February 5, 2009 by cmdmedia

CLARK—Temple Beth O’r/Beth Torah will honor Clark Mayor Mayor Sal Bonaccorso on Saturday, Feb. 28, at the temple’s Grand Casino Nite.

Community members take part in last year’s Grand Casino Nite event.

Community members take part in last year’s Grand Casino Nite event.

The annual event, which begins at 8 p.m., transforms the synagogue into an Atlantic City style-gaming operation, featuring blackjack, craps, and roulette. All games of chance will be played on regulation tables, manned by professional dealers and croupiers.

As state laws prohibit the synagogue from redeeming chips for cash, each Casino Nite guest will be given the chance to bid on gift certificates, services and merchandise as prizes.  Past prizes have included tickets to shows and professional sporting events, weekend packages, and specialty merchandise.

A graduate of the township’s public schools, Bonaccorso graduated from Cook College with a degree in landscape design, and now owns Sam Bonaccorso & Son Landscape Contractors. He also graduated from the NJ Realty Institute, and serves as a Licensed Realtor at Village Green Realtors, located in the township.

As Mayor of Clark, Bonaccorso has left an admirable legacy.  Since assuming the mayorship in 2001, the township’s library was renovated and a 10,000 sq. ft. addition was added to the facility.  The mayor was able to acquire Esposito Farm Park’s 13 acres as open space.  The Garden State Parkway circle at Exit 135 was recently improved using public funds at no cost to Clark taxpayers.

Bonaccorso was recognized by the UCCC as Mayor of the Year in 2004, and under his leadership, Clark has been recognized as one of the top 33 places to live in New Jersey by NJ Monthly in 2008.

Mayor Bonaccorso resides in the township with his wife of 15 years and three children.

“Events like this one at the synagogue present opportunities by members of our community to get to know one another as well as having fun”, said the mayor. “It makes our township a great place to live and work.”

Admission to the event is $25, which includes chips, a raffle ticket for the evening’s raffles and silent auction.  Local gourmet food will be provided at no charge by the Garden Deli of Iselin, and Deli King of Clark.

Tickets may be purchased at the event or by mail at Temple Beth O’r/Beth Torah, at 111 Valley Road, Clark, N.J. 07066. The synagogue recently celebrated its 50th anniversary in the community, and proceeds from the event will benefit the ongoing youth, senior programs, and exciting speaker and other events.
