“Summer of ‘09” To Be Best Ever In Woodbridge

May 21, 2009 by cmdmedia

report_from_woodbridgeBy Mayor John McCormac

The “Summer of ‘09” looks to be the best ever in Woodbridge… which is why I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone about the great events and happenings coming to Woodbridge this summer.

Let’s start with Saturdays in downtown Woodbridge with the kick-off of the “bigger and better” open-air Farmer’s Market on Saturday, June 20, in the Town Hall parking lot on Main Street.  This season, the Farmer’s Market will feature more farm stands and vendors… cooking demonstrations by the chef’s at Wegmans… and dozens of special events for kids of all ages.  So, shop the Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and find out what “Woodbridge Fresh” is all about.

Wednesdays come alive with “Music on Main Street.”  Enjoy an assortment of free music on Main Street every Wednesday all summer long… from the Jack Goodman “Swing” Band… to the Tim Gillis Band… to the Woodbridge Community Choir… there’s a show for everyone.  And, return to the days of “classic cars” and “hot rods” when car enthusiasts from across the state start “Cruisin’ on Main Street” on Wednesdays in June, July and August.

The Mayor’s Summer Concert Series offers an incredible lineup of classic “rock ‘n’ roll” artists each Monday at 7:30 p.m. from July 6 through Aug. 31 on the grass field behind Woodbridge High School.  Sansone’s Route 1 Auto Mall, Woodbridge Center, and ShopRite are again sponsoring this year’s entertainment.  This summer, the B Street Band (the music of Bruce Springsteen)… Beginnings (sounds of Chicago)… Big Shot (Billy Joel songbook)… and Hotel California (the music of the Eagles) join our regular performers… The Duprees, Kenny Vance, Johnny Maestro, and The Infernos.  As an added attraction, the finalists of the Woodbridge Idol competition will showcase their talent with pre-show performances before each concert.

The Mayor’s Wellness Campaign continues throughout the summer with a series of wellness and healthy lifestyle events, including the Second “Mayors Healthy Cook-Off” on June 10 at Wegmans.  Enjoy the fast-paced cooking “throw down” as Mayor’s from across the state prepare healthy summer barbecue and other incredible favorites.  The annual American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” is set for June 19 and 20 at Colonia High School — join in the fight against cancer by either sponsoring a team or by taking part in a research study that tracks cancer in adults over the next 30 years.  The first ever “Woodbridge Run for Pizza” steps off from Town Hall on July 1… run four miles to the Sewaren waterfront park and back to Town Hall… just for the fun of it… and for pizza and hearty refreshments.

These are just a few of the Woodbridge Township “special events” for the “Summer of ‘09.”  For a complete list of everything that’s going on in the township, log-on to the township web page at: www.twp.woodbridge.nj.us.
