COLONIA—Ayna Agarwal, a member of the Community Campus Edison Branch YMCA, has been named a top runner-up for “The 2009 Prudential Spirit of Community Award” in New Jersey. Agarwal also qualified for the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation and the President’s Volunteer Service Award, which is based on the number of volunteer hours she has dedicated to her community and her country.

WOODBRIDGE—On Saturday, Woodbridge Township’s fire districts will hold elections for commissioners and budgets.

In Woodbridge Fire District No. 1, Commissioner Ken Gardner is running for re-election against Ken Horvath. The proposed budget is $7,682,360 with $5,915,123 to be raised through taxes.

Commissioner Joseph Zullo is running unopposed for re-election in Port Reading Fire District No. 2. The proposed budget is $1,766,349 with $1,575,269 to be raised through taxes.

COLONIA – The combined choirs of Colonia High School will hold their annual “Winter Wonderland” event on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

A $10 pay-one-price admission for children includes a visit with Santa, one photo with Santa per child, cookies and milk or juice, one face painting design, one holiday craft, an entry into a coloring contest and all games, including prizes. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Parents may accompany without charge, and free coffee will be available.

—Lower, Middle and Upper School students at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison have been collecting supplies such as dog/cat food, newspapers, blankets, toys, and other items to benefit animal shelters in the area. The drive was organized by Colonia resident Ayna Agarwal and her friends. Pictured, left to right in the Lower School hallway, are: Agarwal, Devi Mody of Edison and Garima Kapoor of Edison.
