RAHWAY—Rahway Mayor James J. Kennedy and Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency Executive Director Marge Della Vecchia joined Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Joseph Doria to announce that Rahway is the newest member of the Live Where You Work Program earlier this month. Rahway is the sixth municipality to partner with HMFA on the program.

“Workforce housing is a key component in Gov. (Jon) Corzine’s efforts to provide New Jersey residents with the homes they need,” said Doria. “This program will greatly assist in that effort. Mayor Kennedy and Rahway should be commended for their commitment to the residents of this city and I encourage more municipalities to join the program.”

RAHWAY—Six Democrats seeking election to the City Council next month are each calling themselves “Rahway’s Redevelopment Expert” in their campaign material, in a brazen attempt to latch on to the considerable good feeling in the city over Mayor James Kennedy’s downtown initiatives.

Bobby Akbar, of 692 East Grand Avenue, is the Democratic candidate for First Ward Councilman.

A 1994 Rahway High graduate who starred for the Indians in the early 1990s under the name of Bobby McClain, Akbar is a 5th grade teacher at Franklin Elementary School. Two years ago, he authored a book titled, “What It Means To Wear The Red And Black – 100 years of Rahway High School Football 1906-2006.”

Mayor To Host Celebration Dinner

RAHWAY – Mayor James Kennedy will host a dinner to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the City of Rahway on Friday, June 20 at 7 p.m. The dinner will be held in the Hall of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, located at 1415 St. Georges Avenue. (more…)

RAHWAY – The city is excited to announce the celebrations planned throughout the year in honor of Rahway’s historic 150-year anniversary.

The celebration of the 150th anniversary of Rahway’s incorporation as a city will begin with an official kick-off on Thursday, May 1, in recognition of the year-round “First Thursdays” specials. On that night and the following night, the downtown arts district (anchored by the Union County Performing Arts Center) will show off its recent renovation with music, entertainment, and arts and crafts.

RAHWAY – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced that a $6.2 million renovation of the Union County Performing Arts Center has been completed. Mayor Kennedy Visits Rahway Middle School

Mayor Honors Top Students—On Friday, Jan. 25, Mayor James Kennedy announced the monthly grand prize winner of the PBSIS Initiative Program at Rahway Middle School.  Kennedy also presented prizes to the weekly winners in grades 6-8.
