Sayreville Preserves Last Borough Farm

SAYREVILLE – The borough has purchased the development rights to Dieker’s Farm, preserving the future of the last farm in Sayreville.

Jim and Jeanne Dieker have been working since 2003 to make sure that the farm would be preserved. “It’s not only my livelihood, but my whole life. I just didn’t want to see it go away. My only regret is that my father was not around to see it happen,” Jim Dieker said.

Edison Preserves Former Superfund Site

EDISON—Mayor Jun Choi, along with federal, state and local leaders, announced the township’s purchase and preservation of the former Chemical Insecticide Corp.

 

“On this historic day, we take hold of a piece of property that was once contaminated and has now been transformed into open space for recreational purposes. This will be another step forward to improve the quality of life of Edison residents. This happened through a team approach and many people must be thanked – our U.S. Senators Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez, Congressman Frank Pallone, our state delegation, the U.S. EPA and our local environmental advocate Bob Spiegel,” Choi said.

The township will preserve the 6-acre site for open space and recreation. The CIC property is a former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Superfund site. The EPA spent $53 million to clean up the site. Digging 30-feet deep into the ground in its cleanup efforts, the EPA removed more than 350,000 tons of contaminated soil. The site is now safe and well-suited for recreation and open space.

Woodbridge & County Announce Purchase Of Township Land For Open Space Preservation

Vacant School Board Property in Woodbridge Township to Remain as Open Space

I am please to report that the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders have approved the purchase of two tracts of undeveloped land in Woodbridge Township as part of Middlesex County’s and Woodbridge Township’s open space land preservation program. The county-sponsored open space land purchase will add more than ten acres to Woodbridge Township’s open space and environmental resource inventory – currently in excess of 286 preserved open space acres – will expand the county-owned Merrill Park with additional recreational open space, and will curtail any future development next to Indiana Avenue School #18 in Iselin and near the Woodbridge High School.
