PERTH AMBOY—The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has been chosen by the Cal Ripken Foundation to receive Quickball Stadium Equipment.
This new and innovative athletic program was invented by brothers Chris and Keith Mackie of Winston-Salem, N.C. to make baseball more fun and appealing to children. “We developed the game and rules to make it fun for everybody, regardless of skill level,” Chris Mackie said. “We also wanted to take some boredom out of the game.”
In Quickball, the team on offense lines up and each batter gets a one-pitch, one swing at-bat. This results in many more at-bats for many more kids. Hit or miss, they run to the back of the line to get ready for their next turn. Outfielders are awarded points for catching hit balls. Keith Mackie said, “There’s a lot more energy to the game, and you can score on offense or defense, which makes it fun, too.”
