Classified Ad Writing Tips
- Know your competition. Before writing your ad, it always helps to read other similar ads currently running in the newspaper.
- Be clear. Do not use abbreviations – not everyone knows what they mean.
- Be specific. The more information in your ad, the faster your item will sell.
- Be unique. How is your merchandise better/different than that offered in the other ads that will be running next to yours?
- Be sure to close the deal. Include a price and a contact number. Including a first name (“Call Joe at…”) can help close the deal.
- Frequency Helps. The more the ad is in the newspaper, the faster the item(s) will sell.
