LINDEN – A Virginia couple were seriously injured Sunday when their small plane crashed and burst into flames in an industrial area of Linden.

The crash victims – Jason Snyder, 33, and his wife Jennifer, 34 – were found conscious, lying next to the single-engine aircraft, authorities said. They were flown to University Hospital in Newark, where they were listed in critical condition Sunday night. Officials remained hopeful that the couple would recover from their injuries.

The crash occurred around 4 p.m., shortly after take off from Linden Airport, officials said. Witnesses saw the plane, a Beechcraft Sundowner Model 23, flying low before slamming into trees in a railroad right-of-way near Linden Avenue. Officials Warn Of Lottery Scam

TRENTON—The New Jersey Lottery announced that it is investigating several reports of altered tickets that have cropped up throughout the state in recent days, one of which was recently featured in a local news story.

The alleged scammer tells potential victims that he hasn’t been able to cash in a winning top-tier instant ticket, and that even if he was able to, state-sanctioned garnishments would probably take away most of his prize.  Victims are then offered the ticket for far less than the apparent worth of the ticket.  However, when the victims try and claim the ticket as a winner, scrutiny by the Lottery’s Security Department-as well as the State Police-has proven these alleged ‘winning’ tickets are nothing more than several non-winning tickets carefully pasted together.

“As news reports have shown, at this time of year, people need to be especially vigilant,” said William T. Jourdain, acting executive director of the New Jersey Lottery, “This scam, unfortunately, is just one of the latest scams that our Security Unit has seen throughout the international gaming community.  Please-at this time of the year or any other-make certain you purchase your tickets from a licensed New Jersey Lottery retailer, whether you are buying them for yourself or as gifts.”

“This generous donation is very helpful in several ways,” said Dr. Rocco Tomazic, assistant superintendent, Linden Public Schools.  “First, it adds to our resources to get kids excited about reading.  Second, it helps our families of limited means by providing ready access to a wide variety of books for out of class reading.  Kids need to read at home and at school,” he added.  “This book ‘give away’ by United Way and Barnes & Noble helps bring to our district more books beyond those we have planned for in our budget.” “The Linden Public Schools,” he continued, “greatly appreciates this generosity and we know it will be of ongoing benefit to our students.”
