WOODBRIDGE—On Saturday, Woodbridge Township’s fire districts will hold elections for commissioners and budgets.

In Woodbridge Fire District No. 1, Commissioner Ken Gardner is running for re-election against Ken Horvath. The proposed budget is $7,682,360 with $5,915,123 to be raised through taxes.

Commissioner Joseph Zullo is running unopposed for re-election in Port Reading Fire District No. 2. The proposed budget is $1,766,349 with $1,575,269 to be raised through taxes.

This week starts the Frank Cicarell Union County Boy’s Basketball Tournament.

Here are this year’s top seeds:

1. St. Patrick’s is looking to defend their title. Since 1993, St. Pat’s has been a mainstay in the county finals. This year should not be any different

2. PlainfieldWith a new coach and led by Pitt-bound Isaiah Epps and Tyrone Johnson, the Cardinals have a good chance to advance and play a rematch of the 2006 finals against the top-seeded Celtics

RAHWAY — The Merchants and Drovers Tavern Museum Association (MDTMA) will be hosting a children’s Ghost Night at the Tavern on Saturday, Feb. 28, beginning at 6:30 p.m.   All children from ages 6 through 14 are invited to step back in time to the early 1800s to hear true tales of ghostly happenings in an era of candlelit taverns and stagecoach inns. 

Parents are also welcome to join this fun and exciting evening at the 210-year-old Rahway landmark where enactors will take their audience through the period rooms and share the stories and historical legends of supernatural and mysterious events.

Homebuyers may qualify for a new tax credit.  The credit applies to primary home purchases between April 9, 2008 and June 30, 2009.  The credit may be worth up to $7,500 for either a single taxpayer or a married couple filing jointly.  This tax credit must be paid back in equal payments over 15 years.  First-time homebuyers are those who have not owned a home in the three years prior to a purchase.
